porsche_panameraThe Porsche Panamera takes its design elements from a 911, that’s not to say there won’t be a significant difference: while the 911’s engine is rear-mounted, the Panamera will arrive with a choice of three front-mounted engines set back to the centre as much as possible.

Porsche’s own 350-bhp direct-injection eight-cylinder petrol engine and 560-bhp twin-turbo will be available, alongside the entry-level Volkswagen 3.5-litre six-cylinder engine generating 300-bhp. Porsche’s 560-bhp  engine should be enough to ram the competition for a while, as the Mercedes CLS 63 AMG develops ‘only’ 514 bhp.

Numerous prototypes for the Porsche Panamera have been spotted around Germany almost naked, therefore there’s very little for us to see when it comes to the exterior. However, Porsche are sure to surprise us with the 560-bhp twin turbo.

The upcoming Porsche Panamera four-door coupe is likely to see production in April 2009, one month after the worldwide debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The Panamera will be built at its Leipzig plant alongside its brother Cayenne. Speculation suggests the maximum production capacity is currently around 20,000 a year.
