The MINI has been a British icon since the early sixties and since the release of the new BMW MINI in April 2001 it has continued to find a place in the hearts and minds of British (and International) drivers. Now BMW is testing the next step in the MINI story, the electric MINI E.
The Nissan Qashqai Crossover, which is built in Britain, is being revised for 2010. Since its European launch in March 2007, the Qashqai has exceeded all sales ambitions, with the 500,000th customer delivery scheduled to take place later this month. This has helped the British manufacturing industry through the recession, as all Qashqais are built at Nissan’s Sunderland plant here in the UK.
An international jury of 59 members from 23 European countries has voted the new Volkswagen Polo as car of the year 2010. The Car of the Year award is one of the oldest and most esteemed accolades in Europe. The best of all new car introductions have been awarded annually since 1964. The last time a Volkswagen won was in 1992 with the third generation Golf. For 2010 the new Polo won with 347 points, outpacing its nearest rival, the Toyota IQ.
Renault has launched new editions of the Laguna Coupe and the Megan in the UK. These new models can be pre-ordered now and will be available in January 2010. First the new entry-level version of the Laguna Coupé: the TomTom 2.0 dCi 150. The Coupé TomTom is based on the dCi 150 with the addition of Renault’s innovative Carminat TomTom system, automatic parking brake and stylish satin chrome centre console. As for the Megan, Renault has introduced a new trim level called Extreme. Standard equipment in the Extreme includes 4×15W radio with RDS and CD, air conditioning, ESP and front electric windows.
The next-generation Mazda3 has been awarded the five-star maximum rating by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), an independent agency composed of the transport authorities of European countries, on its 2009 combined safety performance test.
Automotive Performance Services (APS) from Northamptonshire have designed an engine performance upgrade for the 2.0 TDi Volkswagen Scirocco Coupe. These clever guys have analysed the engine output from the Scirocco’s 1968cc, 16-valve, DOHC, direct injection turbo diesel engine and discovered how to increase the performance.
The rumours have been rife and the Internet has been full of leaked photos, but now officially BMW have released information about the new 5 series. This is the sixth generation of BMW’s 5 series and for the first time has auto start-stop technology and the option of an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Porsche has refined the 911 GT3 for the 2010 motor sport season. The new Porsche 911 GT3 R has been created for racing and follows the international FIA GT3 regulations. It is powered by a four litre, six-cylinder ‘boxer’ engine and delivers a maximum output of 480 bhp which is 30 bhp more than the 2009 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup thanks to its increase in engine size by 200 cc.
