The Renault Megane Experiment: Can a Car Change a Town?

Can a car change a town? asks Renault in their latest ad campaign for the Megane. The campaign, called ‘The Mégane Experiment’, features a film of an actor named ‘Claude’ who goes to Gisburn, Lancashire where there are no Méganes. He convinces villagers he is a ‘joie de vivre’ expert from Menton, France, where there are many.

So is there a correlation between ‘Joy of life’ and the Megane? Watch the video below to find out. In some humorous scenes ‘Claude’ arranges a carnival in which Meganes can be test driven to bring out the hidden ‘Joie de vivire’ of Gisburn. Despite the rain 300 of the 500 residents of Gisburn turned up so Renault may have sold some more meganes since the campaign, I mean brought in some more ‘Joie de vivire.’ It’s certainly worth a look. The film was directed by Oscar-nominated director Henry-Alex Rubin, who shot 48 hours of film over five days and described Claude as a “French Borat with a heart.” Check out the video below:

Volvo’s New Facebook Game – DRIVe Around The World in 80 Days

Volvo Cars have released a new Facebook game in which you need to virtually drive around the world in 80 days. In the game, which has been released to promote Volvo’s super fuel efficient C30 DRIVe, you DRIVe (sorry, their pun, not mine) the C30 around the world using only your network of Facebook friends.

The C30 has a 1.6L “DRIVe” diesel engines designed for fuel efficiency and optionally has start/stop capability. The “DRIVe” engine will do 72.4 miles to the gallon which works out at 828 miles on just one tank of fuel.

In the game you need to drive your Volvo to a Facebook friend who lives as close to 828 miles away as possible. Then using the principle of six degrees of separation, the car is passed on from friend to friend, moving around the world until it makes its way back to you.

Volvo will donate €15,000 to a project that fights global warming (an environmentally-friendly wind farm in Izmir, Turkey) in the name of the team that drives around the world the most efficiently. And, for everyone who plays DRIVe Around The World, Volvo will additionally offset 99 grams of CO2; so the more people play the game the better it is for everyone.

The game started just a couple of days ago and will run 80 days until February 4, 2010. If you are the captain of the winning team you will be arguably the world’s most well-connected person!

2009 Focus RS – Fords Fastest Focus

Ford’s released some spy-like pics and vids on the new Ford Focus RS. The shots are of a camouflage prototype undergoing performance and durability testing at Germany’s famed Nürburgring. The RS is set for launch in early 2009.

The Focus RS will be getting a front-wheel-drive with a reworked front axel to keep the fun into driving. The RS’s Duratec will be optimised to generate around 300 HP with 400Nm torque.

We’ll be seeing the new Focus RS at the London Motor Show in late July where we’re expecting to hear all the details.
