For the new Land Cruiser, Toyota has retained the body-on-frame construction that has always been an integral part of Land Cruiser’s exceptional off-road ability. Careful attention to the suspension design and NVH measures ensure high standards of on-road ride, handling and comfort are maintained.

In the UK new Land Cruiser is offered as a five-door model powered by a revised 171bhp 3.0-litre D-4D engine, matched to a five-speed automatic transmission. Three equipment grades are offered – LC3, LC4 and LC5 – with seven seats fitted as standard on all but the entry level version (on which third row seats are an option). Customer orders are being taken now with first deliveries from early December. On-the-road prices range from £29,795 to £44,795.

Toyota has introduced its top-of-the-range Aygo Platinum which builds on the specification of the Aygo+ model, adding 14-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, Crystal Silver metallic paint, six-speaker audio system, Alcantara and leather upholstery and leather gear knob trim.

Three and five-door versions are available, powered by Toyota’s 1.0-litre VVT-I petrol engine with Toyota Optimal Drive. Five-speed manual transmission is fitted as standard, with the option of Toyota’s Multimode system.

The new Toyota Prius has been voted Japan Car of the Year by a panel of experts at the Tokyo Motor Show 2009. This is the first major award for the new third generation Prius which was launched in August of this year.

The Prius is a full hybrid car and uses Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system which combines petrol and electric power. From start-up the Prius can drive under electric motor power alone up to 31mph until the petrol engine kicks in. Above 31mph the Prius uses its 1.8l petrol engine and its two electric motors in synergy. When braking, and during deceleration, the electric motor acts as a high-output generator and recharges the high-power battery. This kinetic energy is normally wasted as heat when braking or decelerating.

In Japan, the Prius has been the nation’s top selling new car for the past five months in a row. In the UK, Totota have received more more than 4,000 customer orders and in September its sales performance moved it up to become Toyota’s third best-seller, after Yaris and Auris.
